FAQ

What vegetables are good to grow together?

Because they are both fond of similar soil conditions and temperatures, it is easy to grow peppers and tomatoes together. They can complement each other because tomatoes require heat to mature, and peppers require lower temperatures for their optimal flavor. You can try planting them together by starting seeds indoors six weeks before transplanting them outdoors. Once the weather cools down, transplant the pepper or tomato plants outdoors.

What is a planting calendar?

A planting plan is a list of plants to be planted at different times each year. The goal is for plants to grow at their best while minimizing stress. Early spring crops like spinach, lettuce, and peas must be sow after the last frost date. Squash, cucumbers, and summer beans are some of the later spring crops. Fall crops include carrots and cabbage, broccoli, cauliflowers, kale, potatoes, and others.

How often should I water indoor plants?

Indoor plants need watering once every two days. Watering helps maintain humidity levels inside the house. For healthy plants, humidity is vital.

How To

How to grow basil

Basil is one among the most versatile herbs you could use in your kitchen. Basil is great to add flavor to dishes, sauces or pastas. These are some helpful tips to help you grow basil indoors.

  1. Choose your location carefully. Basil is an annual plant and will only live one season if it's not in the right place. Basil likes full sunlight but can be tolerant of partial shade. If you plan to grow it outside, make sure there is good air circulation.
  2. Plant the seeds. Basil seeds must be planted at the latest two weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in small pots filled with potting mix. Clear plastic wrap should be used to cover the pots. Germination usually takes about ten days. Once the pots are germinated, you can move them to a place where temperatures remain around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Once they are large enough to handle, transfer the seedlings. Transplant the seedlings into larger pots by removing the plastic wrap. Each container should be filled with potting mix. To help remove excess moisture, add gravel or pebbles. Add more potting mix as needed. Place the containers in a sunny window or in indirect light. Keep the plants hydrated to avoid wilting.
  4. After the dangers of frost have passed, mulch the plants. This will prevent them from frost damage and help to reduce water loss.
  5. You should water your plants often. Basil needs to be hydrated regularly to ensure its survival. To determine how much water your plants require, use a rain gauge. A timer can be used to shut off the irrigation system when it is dry.
  6. Make sure to pick basil right when it is at its peak. Pick the leaves regularly to encourage bushier, healthier growth.
  7. The leaves can then be dried on paper towels, screens, or other suitable surfaces. Store dried leaves in glass jars or bags in the refrigerator.
